When: Sunday 29 March 2026, 1:00pm – 5:00 pm
Where: Narrandjeri Stadium, 281 Darebin Road, Thornbury, VIC 3071
Format: 7-round Swiss-style tournament at the time control 10 min + 2 sec
The tournament will be rated by the ACF (Australian Chess Federation). Previously unrated participants will be able to join the ACF rating list for rapid and blitz chess by playing in the event with no additional fee.
Entry Fee: $25 Adult; $20 Concession. (Or, if paying directly: $20/$15 conc)

Open Division: 1st: $70, 2nd: $50, 3rd: $30
Under 18 Division: Best: $50, 2nd: $30, 3rd: $20
Under 12: 1st: Trophy, 2nd & 3rd: Medals
When: Fridays 5:40 – 7:00 pm, 20th February until 10th April (no session on 3rd April Public Holiday)
Where: Preston Library Meeting Room, 266 Gower St Preston 3072
Format: 7-round match tournament at the time control 13 + 2. Each round consists of two games, one with each colour, against the same opponent. Each player can request up to two half-point byes during the first five rounds. (This will also apply for late registrations)
Prizes: Open: 1st $100, 2nd $75, 3rd $50
Junior: 1st Trophy, 2nd Silver Medal, 3rd Bronze Medal
Registration Fee: $30 for all 7 weeks (not each week)
Scoring & Tiebreaks: Each round’s match is scored 1, ½ or 0 for an overall match win, draw or loss. Match points are then used first to decide standings, followed by game points.

These sessions are free to join and you are welcome to drop-in and leave at anytime. Players of all abilities and ages are welcome. Parents of children under 12 should remain in the library.
